Scene 1 Script

Scene 1: Luci Looses Out
Actors are sat in the audience, Largerius is behind the lectern.

Largerius: Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today... because you have applied for the position of head librarian at the Library of Largerius, so there are two (looks at The Other Guy) okay, three candidates left

(Cue Weakest Link music)

And the successful contestant is...

(Cue Countdown music)

Gabrielle

(Party poppers?)

Luci: What?! I’ve been here for 500 years!

Gabrielle: Well at least you’ve got your old job.

Largerius: Actually, due to unforeseen circumstances, you shan’t be working here any longer.

Luci: But this is my home etc.

Gabrielle: I’m afraid you and your horns are going to have to find somewhere else.

Luci: (throwing down the lectern) Fine, I’ll make my own library! And it’ll be 10x better than yours!

Gabrielle: Yeah? Where?

Luci: Down the hallway!

Largerius: Well actually, that’s our storeroom, I’m afraid.

Luci: Well in the basement then.
(Wings are ripped off and she and The Other Guy storm off to the basement)

Christmas Party

We've decided to move The Devil Never Gets Lonely to the Christmas party scene and we've got some movement to go along with it. We've also put some thought into the layout of the stage:

'Satan Strikes Back'
Text from The Messiah:

"So Satan lurks in your dreams, Satan swims in your thoughts, Satan put the strength in the murderer’s hand, Satan put the spark in the rapist’s eye, Satan put ambitious greed in the politician, Satan put desire in the thief, Satan put even more greed in the rich, filthy consuming greed, Satan put malice and viciousness in the poor, Satan inspires rulers to make one rule for them and one rule for the poor, kings and queens will eat fortunes while the millions starve, this is the rule of Satan.’’
"He believes he is the son of God, self-deception is the great drug’’
"Deny me and you shrivel, deny me and you fear’’

“I came to set the earth on fire! Do you suppose I came to bring peace to the world? Not peace, but conflict! Father against son, son against father, mother against daughter, daughter against mother. Do you think that I came to bring peace to the world? No I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. Man’s worst enemy will be his own family. Not true? No prophet it recognised in his own country, how blessed are you who are hungry, your hunger will be satisfied.”

X FACTOR IDEA:
SIMON=OLLY, LOUIS=MARK, DANII=CHLOE, CHERYL=LIVVIE
Conflicting over ____
(potentially to come in during scene one, either first or second time around during the play?)

Today we did some work on archetypes and gestus to prevent us from slipping into naturalism, including exploring manerisms and exaggerating them such as:
  • The politician and protesters (Olly threw his arms about talking in an upper class accent while Mark and I shouted lies etc).
  • Journalists (taking notes, pushing glasses up nose. Papparrazi, camera in hand ''photo'', Olly being Cheryl Cole..)
  • Soldiers (Mark and I standing upright whilst Olly marched in front shouting throwing his head about)
  • Big business owner (''Daddy, can I have a pony?'', Mark bent spine, frantically writing as Olly tells him to fire workers.)

We also talked about adding some more scenes into the play to fill it out a bit and finnally recording the script to get it out and learn it as soon as possible, particularly if anyone's absent.
